Armstrong just changed what a foilboard feels like underfoot. The Midlength Mk II X-Form isn’t a refresh — it’s a completely new construction built in a factory they designed themselves specifically for this purpose. We’ve got them in the shop now. Here’s what you need to know before you come in.
Why X-Form Is Different
Most foilboards are built using conventional surf construction methods — EPS foam, fiberglass, resin layup. It works, but it has limits. The boards soften over time, flex patterns change, and the connection between rider and foil degrades with use.
Armstrong looked at those limitations and built a factory from scratch to solve them.
X-Form uses proprietary CNC-machined molds — every board formed in a single molding cycle under uniform pressure and temperature. Rocker lines, rails, bevels, and contours are locked in to exact tolerances every single time. The board you ride on session one hundred performs identically to session one.
What this enables is a considerably thinner board profile than conventional construction. Less material between your feet and the foil means cleaner feedback, better control, and a more direct feel. It doesn’t feel like you’re riding on top of the board. It feels like you’re riding through it.
The Construction in Detail
Dual Carbon Stringer System
A carbon stringer runs top-to-bottom through the board, fully connecting deck and bottom for maximum structural rigidity. The Carbon Foil Tracks are keyed directly into the stringer fibers — meaning the track isn’t just glued in, it’s structurally integrated. Under load, the whole board works together.
Built for Impact
High density PVC rails protect the areas that take the most abuse. If the board does crack, it won’t absorb water the way EPS foam does. Armstrong describes it as “tank-built” and based on what we’ve seen in the shop, that’s not an exaggeration.
Forward Geometry Foil Track
Armstrong introduced Forward Geometry in 2021 — positioning the foil more centrally under the board to reduce swing weight and increase maneuverability. The Mk II continues this with tracks positioned further forward than previous generations. More connected feel on foil. Works with any foil system. No adapter needed.
Shape and Outline
The bottom contours on the Mk II are optimized for both flight and water contact. A refined double concave transitioning to a subtle V generates early lift — making takeoffs easier and more efficient in light wind. When the board touches down, it glances off the surface rather than sticking, allowing quick, clean release back onto foil.
The squash tail adds pop on takeoff and keeps things predictable on landings. Shallower chines and a flatter rear reduce drag throughout.

The Midlength Mk II X-Form comes in nine sizes from 38L to 130L, covering wing foiling, parawing, SUP foil, wake foil, and dock starting:

The 65L is the most versatile option for wing foiling at typical PNW weights. If you’re heavier or newer to the sport, the 75L or 85L gives you more surface to work with in the lighter winds we get on Puget Sound and at Hood River.
Our Take
The Good: This is a genuinely different board. The X-Form construction is immediately noticeable underfoot — stiffer, more direct, and confidence inspiring from the first session. Takeoffs are cleaner, landings are more predictable, and the Forward Geometry track placement makes the foil feel more responsive to input. For wing foiling in the PNW it’s a strong choice.
The Bad: You’re going to want every size.
Who is it best for? Wingers, parawingers, and anyone ready to step up their board game. If you’re currently riding an older Armstrong board or a conventional construction foilboard and wondering why it feels a little mushy or unpredictable — this is what you’ve been missing.
