Let's get environMENTAL with the coolest grip pad & leash on the market made out of algae biomass harvested from freshwater sources around the world! At Urban Surf we try to be as sustainable as possible and companies like Slater Designs do an even better job making that easier for us. We are proud to announce that we will be stocking their new algae foam traction pads and Yulex/recycled PET bottle surf leashes.
Partnering with BLOOM, a high performance foam made from this freshwater algae biomass, Slater Designs created 3,4, and 5-piece Traction Pads from foam to packaging in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The BLOOM algae foam;
- "Helps improve the quality of waterways by removing excess algae that harms plants, animals, and people who rely on the ecosystem for survival."
- "Recirculates fresh water back into the habitat."
- "Aids CO2 capture and sequestration. By scraping pond scum, solar drying, and pulverizing it before foaming the material to create a pad that helps re-balance the natural ecology, and reduces our dependence on non-renewable oil."
Slater Designs has gone above and beyond by wrapping their pad in recycled plastic PET bottles wrap and recycled paper!
To top it off, Slater Designs in partnership with Revolwe manufactured the worlds most eco-friendly leash with the least amount of carbon footprint compared to any. The Slater Designs Eco Leash does this by substituting the cord with 20% recycled urethane, an ankle strap made 100% from recycled PET bottles, and a Yulex cuff! By using Yulex, a 100% natural plant based rubber, Slater Designs has lowered CO2 emissions by 80% compared to a conventional leash cuff.
